Professor Owen Patrick Smith CBE, Hon FTCD, is a leading authority in paediatric, adolescent and young adult oncology at Trinity College Dublin. He is internationally recognised for his clinical and research contributions to the treatment of childhood cancers, particularly leukaemia, where he has played a key role in advancing outcomes and long-term survivorship. Professor Smith combines academic leadership with extensive clinical experience, shaping national and international approaches to cancer care for younger populations. He has been instrumental in developing collaborative research networks and improving access to innovative therapies. In addition to his academic and clinical work, he has held senior leadership roles within healthcare, contributing to policy and service development in Ireland. A committed educator and mentor, Professor Smith has influenced generations of clinicians and researchers. His contributions to medicine and healthcare have been recognised through numerous honours, including the award of Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).
